Under Over the Table

So now that we’re married and moved in and all, I guess it’s time I start actually planning this reception party. Sure, I’ve already informed everyone of a place and time in the cutest way possible, but the actual details of said party have yet to be discussed. To those who ask I simply say, “I just want to eat and dance. So…there’ll be eating. And dancing.” They are my two main goals in life anyway so I don’t think there could be anything better.

But people expect things, y’know? I mean, my people do, anyway. I come from a very small southern town and passing judgement is what they do best. It’s like a sport, right after watermelon seed spitting and before the greased pig. If that didn’t make sense to you just watch Steel Magnolias. I’d really love to be making this up but my grandmother is Clairee Belcher. My mother is M’Lynn Eatenton. And that is exactly why I love them.

The point is, I am in the beginning stages of getting stuff together and making lists and performing trial runs of dishes and decorations and dance moves (oh, we will be doing Thriller. WE WILL). Today I tried my hand at table decorations.

In lieu of a theme I decided to just go with things I liked – namely, bright kitchy things. I feel in love with these fat quarters and decided to use them on my tables.

Under Over the TableI’m not gonna lie – I am going to steal every single good reception idea ever presented on the internet. If I can credit you I will, but I will also be honest and let you know that I read about fifteen different wedding blogs daily. You’d never believe me if I told you I eloped, would you?

Under Over the TableIn some blog or another I saw these really pretty flower arrangement with river rocks and grass strands in a mason jar. I had already collected two sets of jars (shown here), so I thought it’d work great as my own table centerpieces!

Under Over the TableI am currently using all of my Michael’s coupons towards these battery-operated votives, which look really pretty in the blue jars when it’s in a darker setting.

Under Over the TableI really didn’t care about using flowers at the party, but if you ask for a florist’s leftovers for the day you can walk away with some good stuff for cheap.

Under Over the TableSo there you have it! One table centerpiece down…um, well, some more to go. I should really work on that head count.
